Sai Daeng beach is a very quiet beach with a well preserved coral reef. The beautiful beach is also a good starting point to get to Shark Island, the best Koh Tao snorkeling spot on the island. Sai Daeng beach is located at the Sai Daeng resort, so you can only access the beach via the stairs of the resort. But all visitors are welcome without any charge. Sai Daeng is for sure one of the best Koh Tao beaches. I highly recommend to check this one off your Koh Tao things to do list! Read in this complete guide everything you need to know about Sai Daeng beach Koh Tao!

How to get to Sai Daeng beach

Sai Daeng Beach can be accessed through the Sai Daeng Beach Resort. There are signs pointing where to park you motorbike in front of the resort. There are no parking or entry fees to Sai Daeng Beach. After you have parked your scooter, you can follow the signs to the stairs and find your way down to the beach.

What to expect at Sai Daeng beach

This beautiful secluded beach is part of a resort, so most of the visitors are guests of the resort itself. Via stairs you can enter the beach. There is enough shade provided by the trees and sun beds are available for rent. The beautiful beach stretches out for only 200 metres and is enclosed at both ends by massive rocks. You can see Shark Island from the beach, which is one of the best Koh Tao snorkeling spots. So if you’re into snorkeling or scuba diving you will have a lot of fun here!

Things to do at Sai Daeng beach

There are several things to do at Sai Daeng beach, especially water sports! Kayaks and snorkeling sets are available to rent from the restaurant located down on Sai Daeng Beach. There you can also order a yummy breakfast or other snacks if you are hungry. We enjoyed a great little breakfast here we we head out early to explore this beach.

A nice little breakfast at Sai Daeng beach restaurant

You can visit Shark Island from this beach, paddling out with your kayak takes approximately 10-minutes in calm water. You can tie your kayak to a floating buoy close to Shark Island before jumping in the water for a snorkel. The good snorkelling spots are on the west and east end of Sai Daeng bay where there are various kinds of coral combined with rocks. You also have the chance to find blacktip reef sharks or sea turtles near Shark Island! I you’re into swimming, you can swim east around Cape Gong Sai Daeng to Hin Ngam Bay (which means beautiful rocks in Thai) where you will find beautiful big round shaped rocks underwater. With the many corals it makes it a very good snorkelling spot on Koh Tao, though be careful of the current around the cape!

You can see Shark Island in the back of the photo. The island almost looks like a shark fin sticking out of the water!

Koh Tao weather

The climate on Koh Tao is hot and humid for most of the year. The rainiest months are October, November and December, so it’s better to avoid these. The best moment to come to the Koh Tao is from January to April but the island is also enjoyable during the months of March until August. At this time of the year Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao have the best weather of all Thai islands.
