Very nice small town with a nice beach and good restaurants. There are 2 levadas to walk. There is a small shop in town where you can find everything you need. Ponta do Sol in itself is nothing really special.
Ponta do Sol in itself is nothing really special. But given the fact that you have rental car you can just discover the whole island. It is highly recommended to visit Calheta, there is a very nice harbour and little boulevard. Must go there is restaurant Manifattura Di Gelato. Another very good restaurant is La Vaca Negra in Funchal; best steaks ever!

Such a pretty little place - lots of winding streets - many pedestrian only, and good restaurants too. We mostly ate at the hotel, but also at a restaurant called Caprice which was fantastic and great value for money. We were delighted to find lots of interesting sculpture around the place which was fascinating, and the people were all very chilled and welcoming. The pavements are mostly cobbled, and of course there are lots of hills so challenging if your mobility is reduced as my parent's was - didn't stop us though - we just took our time and there were regular places to sit and rest along the way.

Its a very good place to base yourself as its very easy to get around the island from there, there are may different walks within a short drive.. It is a very small but quaint place. You get the most amazing sunsets in Ponta do Sol .

After seeing all of the towns and villages in Madeira, we liked Ponta do Sol the most. It's really welcoming with nice people and beautiful houses. And of course - Ponta do Sol is the sunniest town in Madeira!

Going western of Ponta do Sol, the traffic is very light compared to Ponta do Sol and towards Funchal. In general, no issue with parking. The pool is great to cool off after a day spent hiking. The room was spacious, really enjoyed how much space I had, had some breakfasts in the balcony when it wasn't too cold. In general the room was really clean.MariusLithuania

Ideal place to stay for hiking and driving around Madeira island. A very spacious and fresh apartment with super hosts. The place was even better than announced, super clean, well equipped with everything you need even for a long term stay. Local services (grocery store, restaurants, cafes, small shopping center) satisfy everyday needs.

The instructions are clear and easy to follow so long as you look (unlike me hahaha), but the host answered the phone and was able to help.

We walked to town for cafes and restaurants and while it was a hike uphill on the return taxis were easy to find.

So if we ever come back to Madeira definitely staying here.
