This is the most convenient way to arrange your rental motorbike, especially because it gets delivered and picked up for free to your accommodation within Ubud, Canggu, Kuta, Nusa Dua, Denpasar, Seminyak, Uluwatu, Kerobokan, Jimbaran, Sanur. Requirements: 20 years old; international car (B) drivers license for scooters (or moto (A) license for motorcycles); copies of passport and drivers license.

Do you prefer a private driver for the day and the freedom to create your own itinerary?

North Bali

North Bali is all about impressive waterfalls, crater lakes and breathtaking viewpoints on the volcanos. Below you will find the best instagram spots for North Bali.

Savana Tianyar

The Savana Tianyar is still a bit of a hidden gem in Bali as it is far away from the popular tourist destinations. So if you want to go to an infamous instagram spot in Bali, the Savana in north Bali it is! The viewpoint is called Savana Tianyar or Savana Nusa because in the dry season the grass turns brown and looks like a Savana as in Africa. With the backdrop of Mount Agung you can capture some stunning photos here from different angles. During and after rainy season the grass is vibrant green and gives a completely different experience than during dry season.

Sekumpul waterfall

Sekumpul waterfall will give you the feeling as if you’re in Jurassic Park. The height and speed at which the water gushes down is impressive. Located in North Bali this waterfall is a must add to your Bali bucket list! It’s one of the best Instagram spots in Bali and for sure one of our favorite Bali waterfalls together with NungNung and Tibumana. For a great tour along some of the most epic waterfalls in North Bali, I highly recommend this hidden waterfalls tour with Four Elements adventure. During this tour you will visit 12 different waterfalls at 2 different locations. So if you’re a waterfall lover, then this tour is for you!

Read in our complete Sekumpul waterfall guide more in-depth information!

Getting there: There are two ways to get to this waterfall, from the car park of Sekumpul waterfall, which is the downstream part and the best place to access all 7 waterfalls in this area. You can also enter the falls from the other side at Lemukih village which is the upstream side.

Entrance fee: 20.000 IDR per person. But since February 2019 there is a fence when you enter the downstream part. Locals await you and charge you money as your guide, around 100.000 IDR. This is questionable because in this way they force you to pay. While before you only had to pay the 20K entrance ticket and could go by yourself. So use your bargaining skills and try to lower the costs as much as possible!

Best time to go for photos: The (early) morning is the best time to go to Sekumpul because of many reasons. First, the light. If you arrive here around 9 or 10 am the waterfall is still in the shade, therefore it won’t be blown out by the sun and you won’t be overheated while shooting. Second, fewer tourists that gives you more time and possibilities for different angles.

Photo tip: There is an awesome rock where your model can climb on to give perspective to the waterfall. But there are also many other angles to make your shot. For example where you can use leaves as a foreground to create extra depth in your shot.

Pinggan viewpoint

Pinggan sunrise viewpoint is an impressive spot with amazing views of Mount Batur and Mount Agung. Located in Kintamani, the region of Bali’s volcanos, this spot is often overlooked, but absolutely worth a visit! Especially for your next instagram shot. Or if you don’t have the time (or condition) to hike up the Mount Batur with sunrise, then this viewpoint is a great alternative to still have an amazing view on the impressive mountains of Bali! As the sun rises the sky turns purple, orange and pink as the thick blanket of mist slowly dissolves revealing a little village ready to start the day. This viewpoint is so stunning and impressive, without a doubt some of the awesome instagram spots in Bali. If you have a drone you can also capture some amazing photos here.

Read in our complete guide everything about Pinggan viewpoint

Wanagiri Hidden Hills

The Wanagiri Hidden Hills is a man made Photospot of all sorts of bamboo attractions. There is a birds nest, swing cocoon and much more. All with views on the stunning Lake Buyan and lush green mountains as backdrop. A perfect Bali Instagram spot, but quite pricey if you compare it to other places to visit in Bali. Entrance fee is about 100.000 – 150.000 IDR.

Book this amazing North Bali Instagram tour including visiting Lake Bratan, the Handara Gate, Wanagiri Hidden Hills and Banyumala waterfall!

Banyumala Twin waterfall

Some of the beautiful Bali waterfalls is Banyumala waterfall with its perfect veil flowing like twin curtains along the rocks into a natural plunge pool. It feels like a jungle fairytale when entering the bottom of Banyumala Twin waterfall. The natural pool is perfect for a dip, so make sure to bring your swimwear!

Tamblingan lake

Tamblingan lake is a caldera lake on 10 minutes driving from Munduk village. It is very closely located to the two other lakes in Bali, Lake Buyan and Lake Beratan. Tamblingan lake has a very unique panorama with the background on the lush hills and a beautiful Hindu temple along the shore of the water. These ingredients make it a fantastic Bali photo spot and therefore Tamblingan Lake is also known as one of the best Instagram spots Bali. Definitely worth it to plan a trip around sunrise to this lake for a unique photoshoot, or just to enjoy the serene surroundings.

Read in our complete guide about all the best things to do in Munduk

GitGit Twin waterfall

Git Git Twin waterfall is not some of the biggest waterfalls in Bali, but definitely a unique one as there are two opposite streams of water flow over one other, creating a spectacular and fairytale like scenery. You can take a dip in the cool water for your instagram shot or use the stairs as leading line. The entrance is located along Jl Raya Bedugul – Singaraja. You will see a sign where a small paved path is going down. If you are experienced driving a motor cycle you can drive all the way down until you can’t drive further. Otherwise you can park your vehicle along the road and walk down which will take you anywhere between 15 – 25 minutes.

Handara gate

The Handara Gate is actually the entrance to the Handara Golf Resort. The traditional Hindu gate symbolizes the entrance from the outer world to the temple, or in this case, golf course. You will see a lot of these gates as they play an important role in Indonesian culture, particularly in Bali. The Handara gate is surrounded by lush mountains, crater lakes and rain forest that create dramatic backdrops, especially on a foggy morning. That makes it the perfect location for an Instagram shot.  The Handara gate is located in Pancasari Village Bedugul, the central highlands of Bali and nestled down inside the crater of an extinct volcano.

Book this amazing North Bali Instagram tour including visiting Lake Bratan, the Handara Gate, Wanagiri Hidden Hills and Banyumala waterfall!

Getting there: Located on the road from Ulun Danu Bratan temple towards North Bali you will pass this gate on your right side.

Entrance fee: Because this spot became so popular with Instagrammers and travelers, locals have set up a ticket booth. There you have to pay for a “Selfie ticket”  30.000 IDR fee per person.

Best time to go: Due to its popularity this place gets really crowded during the day. The best time to go here is with sunrise or right after to beat the crowds. Therefore you can easily combine this spot after you watched the sunrise at Pura Ulun Danu as it’s just 5 minutes further.

Photo tip: The best way to capture this beautiful gate is to make a shot right in front while your model is walking on the road. But if you have a drone you will also be able to capture the gate from another angle. See our shots from the Handara gate below.

Aling Aling waterfall

Aling Aling waterfall is an epic collection of in total four waterfalls to explore along a short hiking trail. The first three waterfalls you will come across before making your way to Aling Aling have the option for jumping from a platform into the natural pool. So if you’re looking for an adrenaline filled adventure, then definitely hire a guide and dive into the waterfall pools! But, there is also the option to just view the waterfalls, which comes with a cheaper price. Especially the biggest waterfall, Aling Aling, is a great photography spot.

Only viewing the waterfalls at Aling Aling costs 20 000 IDR per person and can be done without a guide. Jumping is only allowed with a guide for your own safety. For a great tour along these epic waterfalls in North Bali, I highly recommend this hidden waterfalls tour with Four Elements adventure. During this tour you will visit 12 different waterfalls at 2 different locations including Aling Aling waterfall. So if you’re a waterfall lover, then this tour is for you!

Read in our complete guide everything about Aling Aling waterfall

Ulun Danu Bratan water temple

The iconic and famous Ulun Danu  Bratan water temple is seen on many postcards from Bali and is without a doubt some of the most famous Bali temples. The unique complex located at the edge of Bratan lake consists of five various shrines dedicated to several Hindu Gods. Built in 1633, the temple is used for offerings and ceremonies dedicated to the Balinese water, lake and river goddess Dewi Danu. When the Bratan River rises it looks like the temple is floating in the lake. Therefore it is also called the “Bali temple on the Lake”. Make sure to come early as it is such a popular tourist destination to visit. For the best light, make sure to come as early as possible.

Book this amazing North Bali Instagram tour including visiting Lake Bratan, the Handara Gate, Wanagiri Hidden Hills and Banyumala waterfall!

Entrance fee is 50 000 IDR per person.

Kayupadi viewpoint

Kayupadi is another great Mount Batur viewpoint in Kintamani. Pinggan viewpoint and Mount Batur Photoshoot viewpoint are two other great vantage points along the same road on the crater rim, but Kayupadi is a bit more hidden. There is also another a camp spot along Jalan Kayupadi with the name ‘Kayupadi Sunrise Camping’, but that is not the exact spot of this photo below. However, it’s another great Mount Batur sunrise viewpoint. From Kayupadi you will have a straight view on Mount Batur as it is more towards the north east located. From Pinggan you have a slightly side view on Batur and the other 2 volcanos as it is more north west located along the road. Kayupadi has a great leading line of the path facing Batur volcano making it one of the best natural Mount Batur viewpoints without bamboo platforms or elevations. Perfect ingredients for a Bali instagram shot!

Foggy forest in Kintamani

The weather circumstances can be very moody up in Kintamani. With lots of forest around and in combination with the right foggy circumstances, this mood can create perfect photo opportunities. There is a pine forest and other forests along the road in Kintamani. So if you drive into some of the smaller roads you can end up at a beautiful place in a mystic forest. Bring a vibrant piece of clothing and you will stand out from the moody surroundings.

Mount Batur sunrise hike

One of the best things to do in Bali, and especially one of the best sunrise locations in Bali, is from the summit of Mount Batur. After a 2 hour hike in the dark under a sky full of stars, you will arrive at the top of Mount Batur which is 1717 meters. The best and only way to do this hike is with a guided tour. You will get picked up from your hotel and drive to the car park of Mt Batur. Together with a guide who knows which paths to take on this mostly off-road trails and rocky terrain you will hike to the top. Once you reach the top, the view is absolutely incredible! Slowly you will see the sky changing colors, low hanging clouds passing by, as finally the sun shows up and lights up the earth. It almost feels as if you’re on top of the world!

If you want an adventurous day tour in Kintamani, then you can also book tours including more activities after climbing Mount Batur. Here are the options:

Read in our complete guide all the information you need before climbing the Mount Batur with sunrise.

Getting there: After booking a tour to climb the Mount Batur with Four Elements you will be picked up from your hotel.

Entrance fee: Depending on what tour you book and what is included or not the price may vary. Check the links with different tours in the previous paragraph.

Best time to go: Of course sunrise for the most magical view.

Photo tip: If you have a drone you will love to fly it here! There are so many amazing angles to capture and the texture of mother earth is insane from a bird’s eye view.

East Bali

East Bali is the untouched part of Bali with incredible viewpoints, lush mountains and beautiful historic buildings and temples. Below you will find the best instagram spots for East Bali.

Bukit Cinta

For one of the best views on Mount Agung you have to go to Bukit Cinta, the ‘hill of love’. Especially if you stay in Amed the drive to Bukit Cinta is short, just around 30 minutes. On a clear morning, you will have the best view on Mount Agung. And if you’re lucky there will be some fog, in combination with smoke. Those are the best conditions to take your shot!

Read our complete guide about Bukit Cinta here
Read here about the other beautiful viewpoints on Bali

Getting there: Type in Bukit Cinta on your Google Maps. It is an easy drive, especially when you’re located in Amed. The roads are good and can be a bit steep because you have to go up in the mountains. Therefore it can be cold during the early morning on the scooter! Once you arrive at Bukit Cinta you can park your scooter easily at the side of the road and enter the field where you can take your pictures.

Entrance fee: Free.

Best time to go: Arrive fifteen minutes before sunrise to give yourself the time to do your research at the location and set up your gear.

Photo tip: If the grass is high enough you can use it as framing in your shot to create depth, see the picture below. Use your model in this shot to show the perspective of the immense Mount Agung. If you have a drone you can make your shot from the volcano higher, but take into account that the volcano will look a bit smaller because the drone has a wider lens. Although you can adjust this a little bit in Lightroom with distortion.

Tirta Gangga water palace

The Tirta Gangga water palace is just like Taman Ujung a former royal palace. Nowadays it is open for the public as it’s been turned into a beautiful garden with fish ponds. There are plenty of nice photo spots throughout the palace, so if you have a dress, bring it with you and twirl for extra action in the pictures. If you want to, you can buy some fish food to feed the fish so they are an extra addition to your pictures. But besides the photos with the koi fishes, there are plenty of other beautiful photo spots to find, so if it’s busy at one spot, walk a bit further and find your own little gems!

Book you full day Instagram highlights tour here. Discover Bali on a customisable day trip to its most famous Instagram locations. From the Gate of Heaven to Tirta Gangga water palace and from the lightrays at Tukad Cepung waterfall to Ubud’s rice fields and the jungle swing. Experience the best of Bali during this day tour with customizable features.

Lahangan Sweet Mt Agung viewpoint

This viewpoint in East Bali offers some of the best views on Mount Agung. Overlooking a green valley with unobstructed views on the highest volcano of Bali, Lahangan Sweet really is a very special place. The platform offers great photo opportunities, but be careful if you have vertigo. There can be strong wind up here which is great if you’re wearing a dress so it can playfully flutter with the wind. There are more photo spots at Lahangan Sweet making it a great place to shoot different photos for instagram. The great thing about Lahangan Sweet is that it is exposed to as well sunrise and sunset. With sunrise the volcano gets lit up and with sunset the sun disappears behind the mountain giving it a silhouette.

Read in our complete guide everything about Lahangan Sweet viewpoint

Taman Ujung water palace

Just like Tirta Gangga is Taman Ujung water palace also a former palace in Karangasem. But Taman Ujung really stands out with its beautiful historic buildings and various large pools. The architecture of Taman Ujung is a combination of Balinese, Chinese and European architecture and is one of the largest historical landmarks in Bali. With many beautiful photo spots throughout the palace, you can be busy for hours here shooting. We loved the arches, historic buildings and stairs up towards the old concrete building with arches. The green garden and views on Mount Agung volcano makes Taman Ujung some of the most beautiful, historic instagram spots in Bali.

Mahagiri viewpoint

Another hidden gem with incredible unobstructed views on Mount Agung is Mahagiri Resort in Rendang, Karangasem. From the terrace of their restaurant you will have an amazing view on Mount Agung with the rice fields as foreground. However, you have to be early to have the highest chance of clear views. Therefore we advice to come with sunrise to not only have the best light for photography, but also the best chance of clear volcano views.

Because it is a hotel and restaurant, you will have to order something at the restaurant to make use of their facility. If you come with sunrise you can ask the security guy to open the gate because you want to take a picture at the terrace and will order some drinks or food. Make sure to order something out of respect for the hotel and to keep this opportunity to enjoy the view for future outside visitors of the hotel.

Pura Lempuyang Luhur

Pura Lempuyang temple is one of the oldest and most sacred temples on the island. Also known as “Bali’s gateway to heaven” because of its amazing view on the Mount Agung volcano through the perfectly framed two temple gates. This temple with its incredible view is for sure one of the most special Bali viewpoints and one of the top Bali Instagram spots. The Balinese Hindu temple is located in the slope of Mount Lempuyang, 600 meters above sea level. In the past years, this temple has become extremely popular on Instagram and is visited by many tourists nowadays. Therefore you have to be early at this temple, otherwise there is a chance there will be a queue to take a photo between the gates.

Book here your private tour to Lempuyang temple and more Instagram spots

Read in our complete guide everything about Pura Lempuyang Luhur

Getting there: Located on the most eastern tip of the island, Pura Lempuyang Luhur Temple is around 2 hours from Ubud and 2 and a half hours from Canggu. Therefore we would recommend staying in Amed, as it’s only half an hour drive and you can also explore the other amazing spots on the East part of Bali.

Entrance fee: 100.000 IDR per person.

Best time to go: If you want to beat the crowds nowadays you have to go with sunrise. Otherwise you have a big chance there is a queue, some people said they even had to wait for hours until they could take their photo! We went to this temple in 2016 and were the only ones for 2 hours…

Photo tip: If you have a tele lens you’ll be able to make the volcano look bigger. But most important is that you frame the gates with the volcano right in the middle. Nowadays there is also a local at the temple who takes photos with his iPhone and a mirror under the lens. This creates a reflection of the temple gate and volcano.

Central Bali, Ubud and surroundings

Central Bali is all about rice terraces and waterfalls. Below you will find the best instagram spots for Central Bali.

Tegenungan waterfall

Tegenungan waterfall is one of the most famous waterfalls in Bali. Located 30 min south from Ubud, a visit to Tegenungan waterfall Bali is a perfect day trip. The 25 meter high waterfall is very powerful, especially after rainy season. You can swim at the plunge pool of the waterfall and take great photos. There are plenty of photo spots at Tegenungan waterfall and if you have different focal lengths you can create some varied shots. After sunrise when the sun is peeking through the leaves it can create some stunning lightrays. And because the sun reflects on the spray of the waterfall the light rays can stay for at least 30 – 40 minutes. See below some magical shots we took at Tegenungan waterfall.

Tegalalang rice terraces

The Tegalalang rice terraces are, just like Jatiluwih rice terraces, one of the iconic must-visit locations in Bali. Especially with sunrise are the rice paddies a photographers dream.  But you have to be lucky with the light rays, the perfect conditions are not there every morning. But if the light rays are coming through the trees, you are in for a real treat!! This is certainly one of the best Instagram spots in Bali!

Book here your Bali swing tour including a visit to Tukad Cepung waterfall and Tegallalang rice fields

Getting there: Just a 15-minute drive from the North of Ubud or an hour drive from Canggu.

Entrance fee: A donation. But if you want to photograph the light rays in the rice fields you have to give the landowner Wayan 50K to get on the rice fields.

Best time to go: Make sure to arrive half an hour before sunrise. This will give you the time to walk from the car park to the place where you will get the magical light rays through the palm trees. Also, take into account that the terraces will look different during each season. The best time to go is in September – October and March – April right before they harvest the rice.

Photo tip: There are so many different angles which you can shoot here! Try lower angles, especially when the rice is fully grown so you can catch the magical morning dawn of the grass. Also other angles at Tegalalang are really worth to try out. Get some inspiration from our shots below. With your drone you can get a completely different perspective, it’s so much fun shooting here!

Kanto Lampo Waterfall

Kanto Lampo is a beautiful, photogenic multi tier waterfall near Ubud. Situated in a canyon, this waterfall seeps down the rocks into a river. It really gives you the feeling that you’re deep in the jungle of Ubud when standing at the bottom of Kanto Lampo waterfall. You can create some stunning photos at Kanto Lampo Waterfall and the rocks are pretty safe to stand and sit on. A close up as well wide angle photo are both great ideas for Kanto Lampo Waterfall.

Campuhan ridge walk in Ubud

Hidden in the center of Ubud, this valley is an ideal place to unwind and take in the jungle nature surroundings that makes Ubud so relaxing. A great morning stroll of 1.5 km without the need to dress in your hiking gear. The windy pathway will take you up and downhill providing you with a stunning view over the surrounding scenery before leading you through rice fields. It’s a beautiful place and must be on your list to the best Instagram spots in Bali. Although the path is situated right next to the hustle and bustle of Ubud it almost feels like a different world. So lush, so green and so quiet! The best time to go here is with sunrise. It’s way cooler than during the day without having shade. Also with sunrise or in the early morning,  you will have the view to yourself so you can simply enjoy the peace and quietness.

Book here your private Campuhan Ridge to Ubud Monkey Forest Walking Tour

Getting there: Located in the center of Ubud but still a bit hidden, this place might be hard to find. If you spot the ‘IBAH luxury villas and spa’ sign, you turn straight into that road and you will find the carpark. There you will find other signs which lead you to the trail.

Entrance fee: No fee.

Best time to go: Of course with sunrise or early morning because it’s not that hot yet. Also you’ll have nice soft light for the perfect shot!

Photo tip: If you have a drone you have to use it here. On a clear day, you can even see the Mt Agung and Mt Batur in the distance! You can frame the path as you can see on our picture below. Or with your hand camera, you can frame the path where it goes up with the palm tree in it.

Tukad Cepung waterfall

Located nearby Ubud this waterfall can easily be combined with a visit to Tibumana waterfall and Tegenungan waterfall. Tukad Cepung waterfall is secluded in a cave where the water pours straight down along rocks. It looks like a beautiful curtain of satin. When you’re going here on a sunny day you’ll be in for a real treat. The magical light rays will show their beauty and create light beams you’ve never seen before. If you turn your back to the waterfall you will see a few rocks piled up where the light rays shine perfectly on. This is your second photo spot of this location! Climb up the rocks with the mounted staircase and stand in the light for a special shot! This is for sure one of the best Instagram spots in Bali!

Getting there: Google maps will easily bring you to the car park. There you can buy your entrance ticket and hike down for 10 minutes until you reach the cave. There you have to wade a little bit through water and climb over some rocks to finally see the waterfall.

Entrance fee: 15.000 IDR per person.

Best time to go for photos: The best chance of catching the light rays through the cave roof is in the morning, depending on the season, between 9 and 11 am. This is also the busiest time of the day for the waterfall, so be prepared to queue to take your picture.

Photo tip: It will be dark in the cave, which might result in dark photos at first sight. Try to set your aperture as low as possible, F2.8 or lower. And if really necessary your ISO a little bit higher. But in this situation, you better can have too dark pictures which you can adjust in Lightroom, then too overexposed photos as you’ll never see the contrast of the light rays anymore.

Bali Swing

Some of the most popular instagram spots in Bali are the Bali swings. This unique attraction lets you fly above the Ubud jungle with unobstructed views. There are quite some Bali swings to choose from, so do your own research in which has the best views for you. Price also varies per swing, but be prepared to pay at least 200 000 IDR to use the swing.

Book here your Bali swing tour including a visit to Tukad Cepung waterfall and Tegallalang rice fields

Some locations with Bali swings are:

  • Zen Hideaway swing
  • Alas Harum
  • Tegalalang rice terrace swing
  • Sidemen swing
  • Wanagiri Hidden Hill

Tibumana waterfall

Tibumana waterfall is a super photogenic waterfall nearby Ubud. The beautiful jungle surroundings combined with the curtain of water falling down in a straight stream makes Tibumana waterfall one of our most favorite waterfalls in Bali. Tibumana waterfall isn’t a hidden gem anymore, unfortunately. So if you arrive after 9AM or even later, then be prepared that you have to share this beautiful waterfall with other travelers and tourists. There are some really nice angles to capture the waterfall. Low by the water, from the left corner, with leaves as a foreground to create more depth, or from the right corner with some rocks and the little stream in front. At this waterfall you can perfectly practice your long exposure skills.

Old tree Ubud

Bali has many old Banyan trees which are most of the time holy and therefore part of a temple. But there are still some old big trees to find which you can use as a photo spot. During our morning walk we found this beautiful old tree in Ubud centre and decided to have a photo shoot there. Bring a nice colourful dress to create extra contrast with the natural colours and have a true Ubud moment!

Nungnung waterfall

Nungnung waterfall is an incredibly powerful waterfall and one of our favorite Bali waterfalls. But to reach NungNung waterfall you have to put in some effort! More than 500 steps down lead you to the falls, so it is a proper work out the way down and to come back up. But I assure you, it is SO WORTH IT!! This waterfall is one of a kind and one of the best places to visit in Bali. With spectacular power the water gushes down, resulting in a lot of spray. You can dip in the pool, but don’t go too close to the waterfall as the power of the water can injure you seriously. There are several angles to shoot from. With the many rocks near the natural pool and along the two banks of the stream you can stand, sit and walk on the rocks to create a picture you like. Try different angles for example with the bamboo bridge in the foreground, and right in front of the waterfall. But be prepared of the spray around because it can soak your camera lens, so take a lens cloth with you!

Read in our complete guide everything about NungNung waterfall

Tirta Empul

Tirta Empul temple is a Hindu Balinese water temple where water purifications take place. Because it is a holy place you will have to wear a sarong and come here for the purification ritual. But if you want to make an authentic Bali picture, then Tirta Empul is a great place to do this. However please respect the holiness of this place and come with the intention for a purification, not just for an instagram picture. That should be the result of the purification.

Leke Leke waterfall

Leke Leke waterfall Bali is a beautiful hidden waterfall with a narrow stream of water that flows gently down into a small and shallow pool of water. Surrounded by green and lush forestation, you really have the feeling as if you’ve entered a scene from a jungle film. The waterfall is perfectly coved with lush plants and the large boulder on the bottom makes it the perfect spot to put a model on and pose by the waterfall. You really need a wide angle lens to capture the whole fall. But with a zoomlens you can create other nice close up shots of the bottom of the waterfall.

Southwest Bali

The southwestern part of Bali is mostly about beautiful beaches and some epic cliff viewpoints in Uluwatu. Below you will find the best instagram spots for south west Bali.

Sunrise at Sanur beach

Sanur beach is located on the south east coast of Bali. Because the tide is very low early morning, the water close to the shore remains still and reflects the colorful morning sky beautifully. On a clear day, you can even see Mount Agung on the left side. Because you’re facing east on this beach, the sun will rise from the ocean which is magical to see. Therefore Pantai Karang is a popular spot to watch the sunrise for tourists and locals. It’s also a favorite place for photographers, so make sure to arrive early enough to find your best spot. Absolutely a great spot to watch sunrise in Bali and some of the most underestimated instagram spots in Bali!

Getting there: Type in Pantai Karang on your Google Maps. It is an easy drive, especially if you go there before sunrise the roads are still quiet.

Entrance fee: Only parking fee of 2.000 IDR.

Best time to go: Make sure to arrive half an hour before sunrise. This will give you the time to set up your tripod and look for the best angle. You don’t want to hurry and miss out on the most magical sunrise colors which often can be seen just before sunrise.

Photo tip: Use a model or object in your photo to make your shot interesting and use the magical reflection in the water. You can use the fishing boats as an object for example. A long exposure shot will also be cool at this spot because you smooth out the water and sky.

Tegal Wangi cave

Tegal Wangi beach is located in Jimbaran and has a beautiful cave where you can see the sunset from. If you time it well with the tide you can create some stunning images here. The cave is very big so you’ll definitely need a wide angle lens to capture the whole cave in your frame. Wait for a huge wave to crash upon the rocks to create an unique picture with motion. Make sure to use a fast shutter speed to capture the splashing wave.

Tanah Lot

The Tanah Lot temple is a very popular tourist attraction only 10 km west from Canggu. During the day this site can get very busy, so we would recommend to go here with sunset. The view with sunset is breathtaking as the site is facing west where the sun goes down. So you can create some stunning Bali instagram shots here with a unique Balinese temple!

Getting there: Easily to get there with Google Maps, this famous tourist attraction won’t be hard to reach.

Entrance fee: 60.000 IDR per person and 2.000 IDR per motorbike.

Best time to go: An hour before sunset to have enough time to walk to the spot, explore the site a bit more and get ready to shoot and enjoy the sunset!

Photo tip: When it’s low tide you can see the temple from the beach and get a completely different perspective!

Karang Boma cliff

With an incredible 180 degrees view on the Indian ocean, this cliff is one of the best, if not THE best spot to watch the sunset. We had an unforgettable afternoon with friends watching and shooting the sunset from this viewpoint. The Karang Boma cliff has become a famous Instagram spot and it’s easy to understand why. There is enough space to just sit down and enjoy this wonderful view. Take a towel with you to sit on, eventually some snacks and drinks, and you will have one of the most memorable afternoons in Bali!

Getting there: Located in Uluwatu, the southern tip of Bali, Karang Boma cliff is easy to reach. Type in Karang Boma Google Maps and you will get there easily!

Entrance fee: No entrance fee.

Best time to go: You will have the stunning 180 degrees view always. But the most magical time to get to this spot is of course for the sunset views. As it is located on the South-West of Bali, you will have the best views here for sunset.

Photo tip: If you want to make a picture standing on the cliff you will need a tripod to mount your camera on and a remote control to make your pictures at distance. The best framing is from the opposite of the cliff you’re standing on. You will need a wide angle lens for this.

Nunggalan beach

Nunggalan beach Bali is a beautiful hidden white sand beach along green cliffs in Uluwatu. It takes some effort to get to the beach by walking down a rocky path. So you won’t see many tourists here which makes a visit to Nunggalan beach very serene. So if you love a little adventure and work out to get to some of the beaches in Uluwatu, then definitely check out Nunggalan beach. Besides that Nunggalan beach is a tropical paradise beach with soft white sand and crystal clear blue water, you can also find the remains of a shipwreck on the beach which are now covered in graffiti. This became a pretty popular instagram spot and still is a fun place to shoot.

Gunung Payung cave

Gunung Payung beach is a real gem near Nusa Dua. This beautiful beach takes a bit more effort to get to and is therefore probably not a very busy beach. However it has a beautiful stretch of soft sand, lovely turquoise water to swim in. And.. even a very cool cave to explore! Once you arrive at the entrance of Gunung Payung beach, you will have to pay the 8000 IDR entrance fee. Then you can park your vehicle where you will find the warungs, and from there the little hike down to the beach starts. You will have to conquer 500 steps down until your feet hit the soft sand. If you go to the left once you’re on the beach you will find a big cave which is awesome for photography. We went here for sunrise and had a nice shoot with the morning colors and perspective from the big cave.

Sunset at Pasut beach

Palm trees & sunsets, if that isn’t instagrammable, than I don’t know! Pasut beach is a long stretch black sand beach 25km west of Canggu facing the tip of Java. With a hanging palm tree on the beach and a bunch of palm trees together on a grass-field, this is the perfect spot to just sit back and enjoy the sunset. And of course snap some cliche shots of palm trees with sunset. A must add on your best Instagram spots in Bali list!

Getting there: An hour drive from Canggu is Pasut beach located. When you enter the beach, you’ll see the hanging palm tree on your right. On the left side you will see a bunch of palm trees which is also a really cool place to just hang out.

Entrance fee: No entrance, only a parking fee of 2.000 IDR.

Best time to go: Best is to leave Canggu at 4 to have enough time to explore the beach and its surroundings. Colors of the sunset might go wild when the sun disappeared behind the horizon. So don’t leave the beach directly after the sun is gone. When you’re lucky you might see the sky on fire!

Photo tip: There are at least 3 awesome spots where you can take your sunset pictures. See our pictures below.

Photospot 1: the hanging palm tree. Climb in the tree and find the right angle to have the palm tree, beach and sea in your frame. You need a wide-angle lens here.

Photospot 2: the palm tree forest. Also here you will need a wide-angle lens.

Photospot 3: Reflection near the shore where the waves roll out. If the water pulls back into the sea, you will see that the sky reflects on the sand because its still a bit wet. That is the perfect timing to take a shot and take advantage of the reflections on the sand.

Balangan beach viewpoint

Balangan beach viewpoint is a popular spot to watch the sunset in Bali and to admire the beach below. Because the cliffs are facing west, you will have a beautiful sunset right in front of you. There are two main viewpoints on the cliffs. The first and most popular is a small rocky edge that overlooks the turquoise water and beach. The second lookout spot is a little further and is a large circular platform covered in lush vines. On the opposite side of the cliff, you’ll also have a perfect view of the beaches and beautiful coastline.

Beautiful instagrammable cafes

Canggu, but also Uluwatu are a foodie heaven. There are so many healthy and beautifully designed restaurants to choose from, you can have mouth-watering meals every day. All top class food is available in Canggu and many cafes and restaurants have a beautiful interior.  Below you will see a list of the best Instagram spots in Bali to grab breakfast or lunch and take your Instagram foodie shot!

Sunset at Pigstone beach

This long stretched black sand beach is a nice and quiet getaway from the busy beaches in Canggu. Only thing is, on this beach it is allowed to drive with motorbikes. So there are some moments where you might see, and hear, motorbikes crossing over the beach. But, the main reason why you’re going to Pigstone beach is to enjoy the beautiful view during sunset under that one palm tree on a small hill. When you’ve parked your scooter and enter the beach, you have to walk to the right side for 10 minutes. There you will see the single palm tree on top of a little hill. Another instagrammable spot in Bali!

Getting there: Located 12 km west of Canggu, you will reach this beach in more less a 30 min drive.

Entrance fee: No entrance and parking fee.

Best time to go: An hour before sunset (or even earlier if you want to escape the crowded Canggu beaches).

Photo tip: This is a cool spot to have a single palm tree in your frame. It’s minimalistic but beautiful. You can put your camera on a tripod and frame the hill and its palm tree from a lower perspective. Or when you have a drone, you can get another perspective with the palm tree, beach and the sea during sunset. Both examples can be seen below in our pictures.

Infinity pool

If you haven’t been in an infinity pool during your time in Bali, have you actually been in Bali?! Haha joking, but to be honest, there are some beautiful infinity pools around Bali where you have to dive into! It’s also a perfect place for your Bali Instagram shot, but where can you find these beautiful pools?

Below a summary of the best beach clubs with infinity pool in Bali. Before entering a beach club you have to pay entrance or rent for a sunbed and spend a minimum amount for food and drinks. Check before on the website of these beach clubs what the rules are to make use of their infinity pool.

Many hotels and Airbnb’s in Bali also have incredible infinity pools, but to make use of them you mostly have to stay there. However, some have the option for a day pass, so you can always contact the hotel to ask for the options.

Bike on the beach

If you love bikes and you want to ride on the beach in Bali then you can rent a bike and go on the beach at Pigstone. Here it is allowed to drive on the beach with a bike. You can make some fun instagram photos on the bike and if you have a photographer that is skilled and can make panning shots, it can create even more motion in the picture!

Nusa Penida

Nusa Penida island is an adventurous island on a 40 minute ferry ride away from Bali. It is still part of the Bali islands, so therefore I also share some amazing instagram spots on Nusa Penida!

Kelingking beach T Rex

It’s almost impossible that you have never seen any pictures of Kelingking beach. It is the most famous beach of Bali and it’s impossible to deny that the view isn’t impressive. The T Rex shaped land head is a very impressive nature phenomenon. This is without a doubt some of the most popular instagram spots in Bali, Nusa Penida. If you’re short in time and can only visit Nusa Penida island for one or two days, then you van’t miss a visit to the viewpoint of Kelingking beach. Sunset is also incredible from here because you’re on the south west coast, facing the sunset.

Rumah Pohon tree house

This tree house has gained a lot of attention through Instagram throughout the years. Perched on a cliff on the east coast if Nusa Penida island, you can watch an incredible sunrise from Rumah Pohon tree house and take a stunning Instagram shot. But, the price you have to pay for the treehouse is pretty high, 75 000 IDR per person! A bit ridiculous. Meanwhile a little bit further is another viewpoint, called Thousand Islands, where you’ll have a stunning, unobstructed view on the limestone islands and Diamond Beach. Here you don’t have to pay an entrance fee for.

Diamond beach Nusa Penida

Diamond beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on Nusa Penida with towering limestone cliffs and bright turquoise blue water. When exploring Nusa Penida island you can’t miss visiting this beach which is located on the east coast of the island. The viewpoint on Diamond Beach is already picture perfect, but the beach is also absolutely worth a visit.

Nusa Lembongan & Ceningan

The two tiny islands Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan are located close to Nusa Penida. They are perfect to combine when island hopping from Bali. And of course, also on these islands you will find some great Instagram spots!

Blue Lagoon

It’s in the name, Blue Lagoon is a fantastic turquoise blue lagoon on Nusa Ceningan island. The water looks almost unreal so blue it is. You can take some fanatic instagram photos here and if you have a drone you can capture some interesting instagram shots as well.

Devil’s Tear

Devil’s Tear is a collection of rocky coves where the waves crash onto with a lot of force. This results in huge waves and splashes which you can admire from the shore. There’s a roped-off area to walk near the cliffs and watch the waves crash onto the rocks. Depending on the tide there are also some tidal pools which reflect the sky beautifully.
